After being canceled by the Fox network after three seasons and getting picked up by Netflix for two more, Lucifer was allegedly supposed to be all wrapped up by the end of season 5 with a series finale. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore as season 6 is all but guaranteed if reports are to be believed.
TVLine is reporting that leading man Tom Ellis has secured his role as the literal devil for at least one more season into six total. Additionally, many of the cast along with Lucifer showrunners, Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have all struck deals of their own securing them through six seasons (at least).
Netflix isn’t exactly known for picking up canceled shows and keeping them around for long, and they certainly don’t seem to like keeping their own shows going beyond 3 seasons even if that means ending a show before a proper finale (RIP Santa Clarita Diet). So if a sixth season is indeed locked in, we would bet that this would be it for Lucifer. Either way, we are just happy we get at least a little more of Tom Ellis and the rest of the cast in this charmingly devilish show.
Lucifer season 5 will debut later this year, likely in the summer with 16 episodes. No exact date has been provided by Netflix at this time.
