D.B. Woodside is eager to get a Power Ring of his own.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ctor D.B. Woodside of TV’s Lucifer certainly isn’t shying away from expressing just how keen he is to get involved with the DC universe.
In a statement made to Comic Book Resources, Woodside has expressed his deep love and admiration for comic book superheroes, and hopes to get stuck in with the live-action adaptations that are on the cards in upcoming years:
I grew up as a comic-book guy, so I love these characters. We’re living in a superhero bubble right now that I am hoping will never burst.
But Woodside is a self-proclaimed fan boy of one superhero in particular, and that’s Green Lantern. The 46 year old actor even reportedly sported a Green Lantern t-shirt at San Diego Comic-Con last year, and revealed that he had a little bit of a hidden agenda in doing so:
[M]aybe I was wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt because I’m trying to get into the minds over at DC as they are looking for their Green Lantern…That was my cheeky way of trying to influence them.
He went onto say that he hadn’t yet been called on for any audition opportunities to get involved in any of the superhero projects, but continued to emphasise just how eager he is to take a place in the DC/Marvel universes on offer:
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to audition for any of those movies…That’s why I was going with the Green Lantern t-shirt and trying to let people know I am very interested in that world.
I would love to play Green Lantern. There are so many other fascinating characters out there in the DC Universe, as well as Marvel. I would relish the opportunity to play one of those guys.
Right off the bat, we could totally see Woodside playing Green Lantern incarnation, John Stewart, in the upcoming film Green Lantern Corps. We’ve already speculated that the project will most likely feature John Stewart and Hal Jordon, and quite frankly, they’d be crazy not to consider Woodside.
The Green Lantern Corps. will be based off of the comic book series of the same name, and features a whole host of different Green Lanterns who band together with their power rings to create a galactic police force.
And let’s not forget the Justice League project that’s under way, The Justice League Part One, due out in 2017. So far no Green Lantern has been billed in the cast list, but surely he’ll be joining the likes of the Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Wonderwoman (Gal Gadot).
Since both projects aren’t out for some time, we’ll just have to wait and see if Woodside’s dream really does comes true. We wish you luck, D.B.!
Green Lantern Corps. is set for release sometime in 2020, and The Justice League Part One is slated to hit theatres 17 November, 2017.
