The Lego Movie 2 will now be assembling in 2019.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he sequel set to follow the hugely successful Lego Movie which came out back in 2014 is reportedly said to have pushed it’s release date back yet again, but this time it’s by almost an entire year. According to Deadline it is now set to be released 8 February, 2019 instead of the planned date of 18 May, 2018.
The Lego Movie 2 was first announced at the start of this year, with an original release of 27 May, 2017. It’s not clear why the sequel has been delayed for a second time, but perhaps it’s to give more breathing room for other Lego releases – The Lego Batman Movie is the next highly anticipated Lego flick to hit the big screens in 2017.
It’s quite likely that the project is still finding it’s feet and trying to get production moving; we’ve really heard very little of the sequel since it was announced back in January. With no plot details or cast list yet revealed – with the exception of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller returning to pen the script and screenplay, and Rob Schrab in the director’s chair – it certainly seems like the film won’t be ready for a long time yet.
We’ll now be seeing The Lego Movie 2 8 February, 2019. The Lego Batman Movie is set to hit the big screens 10 February, 2017.
