With 3.3 million copies sold, Legion is World of Warcraft’s most successful expansion since Cataclysm.
[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]ven though World of Warcraft surely has seen better days (the MMORPG used to have 12 million subscribers back when Cataclysm was released) the game posted a surprising amount of copies sold on the first full day of the Legion‘s release. Word of Warcraft reportedly had roughly 5.5 million subscribers back in November of last year and so an expansion like Legion definitely was needed if Blizzard hopes to keep the game afloat for the next cpming years.
Blizzard’s CEO Mike Morhaime was quite pleased with the number of copies sold on the expansion’s first day of release and looks forward to releasing more content for WOW players of the next few months.
“It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion.We worked hard to make this the best World of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”
Blizzard tends to release new expansions for World of Warcraft roughly every twenty-five months and with Legion supposedly being the “best World of Warcraft expansion yet” hopefully Blizzard will continue to keep a strong base of subscribers until their next expansion two years in the future.
