Nintendo was apparently not satisfied with just dropping one seismic announcement on an unsuspecting public, because the Direct had more in store, and Kingdom Hearts fans specifically are currently somewhere between weeping and levitating.
A brand new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer dropped today, and it did not come empty handed. Fresh gameplay footage gave fans their clearest look yet at what Sora’s next adventure actually plays like, and more importantly, the trailer confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 will be launching on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside whatever other platforms Square Enix has planned for it.
There is still no release date attached to the game, which is a very Kingdom Hearts way to handle things, but the Switch 2 confirmation alone is the kind of news that sends a fandom into a spiral.
Because Square Enix and Nintendo apparently decided today was the day to permanently destroy everyone’s composure, they announced that the entire Kingdom Hearts collection is coming to Switch 2 as well. The full package includes Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue HD, and Kingdom Hearts 3 + ReMind. Every entry.
The whole sprawling, lore-dense, somehow-involving-Disney, impossible-to-explain-to-your-parents saga, all on one platform. That collection is set to launch on October 8th of this year, which means Switch 2 owners are going to have an absolutely wild fall.
To recap: today gave us the Ocarina of Time remake, a new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer with a Switch 2 confirmation, and a full Kingdom Hearts collection drop date. Nintendo Direct just walked in, put its feet on the table, and stared directly into the camera. The rest of the gaming calendar has some serious catching up to do.
