Probably no KH3 news at E3 though…
Rejoice KH fans; the E3 trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue has arrived.
Check it out below.
2.8 is a compilation of three titles that will connect with the highly anticipated third numbered entry in the Kingdom Hearts series.
The headline title of the collection is Dream Drop Distance HD, a high definition remaster of the previously exclusive to 3DS game. The trailer showed cutscenes of the game more than anything else, so we still don’t really know how the gameplay will be modified for the PS4.
The second title in the collection is χ [chi] Back Cover, an HD movie focusing on the ancient lore of the series explored in the mobile game Unchained [chi], which recently became available in the US.
While most of the scenes shown from Back Cover consisted of the Foretellers (the leaders of the Keyblade factions in Unchained [chi] bickering amongst themselves, we saw some familiar faces from the mobile game like Ephemera and a Chirithy, we also saw a mysterious figure garbed in the Organization XIII black cloak…
Who could it be? Xehanort up to more time travel shenanigans? We hope not.
Anyway, the final title in the collection, and perhaps the one longtime fans are most excited for, is 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage. 0.2 is a continuation of Aqua’s storyline from Birth by Sleep; in fact, it looks like this game is basically Birth by Sleep Volume 2, the teased title at the end of the first game’s Final Mix version.
As Aqua, the player appears to be navigating through the Realm of Darkness towards what remains of Cinderella’s world, Castle of Dreams, which was consumed by darkness prior to the events of KH1. We also finally see her HD character model, which looks amazing, as well as confirmation that Willa Holland (Thea from Arrow) will provide her voice again!
Combat wise, 0.2 appears to be a preview of the battle system in Kingdom Hearts 3 rather than the Deck Commands in Birth by Sleep. However, we see Aqua using the Spellweaver command style she used in BBS, so perhaps elements of the deck system will return in some capacity.
Plus, we get a glimpse of Terra! Well, really just his feet.
Besides the showcased cutscenes and gameplay, the trailer also finally confirmed that 2.8 will launch worldwide sometime this December.
Unfortunately, it doesnt look like we’ll be seeing any Kingdom Hearts 3 at E3 next week, BUT announcements are coming this winter as well. Frozen world hype starts now.
2.8 is shaping up to be robust collection, and hopefully enough to keep us from going insane due to lack of KH3. We hope.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue hits PS4 this December.
I. Cant. Wait. For. This.
