Kiki will be making her deliveries on the London stage this holiday season.
[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]iko Kadono’s charming story Kiki’s Delivery Service – best known as the inspiration for the Studio Ghibli 1989 animated movie of the same name – is making it’s way to the London stage this December at the Southwark Playhouse.

Kiki’s Delivery Service follows the story of a thirteen-year-old witch by the name of Kiki who moves to a new town. As tradition dictates, every young witch must find independence away from their families by spending a year alone and learning how to be self-sufficient. With her broom stick in hand and her lovable cat Jiji at her side, Kiki starts up a delivery service by putting her flying ability to good use.
With a whole host of colourful characters, the story has a lot of heart, and has already been made into a live-action movie along with the better known animated adaptation. There are surely lots of creative ways to bring Kiki’s story to life on the stage and we must admit we’re intrigued to see how they do it.
Adapted for the stage by Jessica Siân and directed by Kate Hewitt, the play will be running from 8 December – 8 January.
