‘Kingdom Hearts 2.8’ New Trailer and Release Date Revealed

The future doesn’t scare me at all. 

A new trailer and a bunch of new information on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue has been revealed for Tokyo Game Show 2016.

2.8 is a compilation of three titles that will connect with the highly anticipated third numbered entry in the Kingdom Hearts series. These titles are Dream Drop Distance HD, a high definition remaster of the previously exclusive to 3DS game, χ [chi] Back Cover, an HD movie focusing on the ancient lore of the series explored in the mobile game Unchained [chi], and 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage. 0.2, a continuation of Aqua’s storyline from Birth by Sleep. 

The trailer features a beautiful CG movie showing brief snippets of each title, and most prominently a recap of what happened in Birth by Sleep. Playing the trailer is a remix of “Simple and Clean” titled “Ray of Hope Mix.” It’s awesome, and we’re glad a remix is is the game’s theme rather than “Simple and Clean” or “Sanctuary” again. 

The trailer was also a FEELS TRIP.

From the new footage shown of A Fragmentary Passage, we see that Aqua will come across the remains of Dwarf Woodlands (Snow White’s world) in the Realm of Darkness, including a sliding sequence set in the destroyed diamond mines. It seems as though the title will largely focus on Aqua dealing with visions of her lost friends, which would probably explain why she encounters VEN SLEEPING IN SNOW WHITE’S CASKET. Quick, give him a smooch!

Also revealed was the game’s official box art. 

While just as crowded with characters as the other HD collection boxes, this may be my favorite of the three. 

Additionally, we also finally learned 2.8‘s release date: January of next year. 

While a bummer for sure, as it was initially revealed to have  a December 2016 release date, this move was most likely a smart business decision rather than a forced delay. December is a super busy game release month with South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Gravity Rush 2, and  The Last Guardian, not mention, Square Enix’s most anticipated title of the fall (and the last 10 years), Final Fantasy XV, is coming late November. This gives KH more space to breathe, and more time to hop on the hype train.
