Warner Bros. Animation has announced the cast of their highly anticipated adaptation.
The Killing Joke is one of DC’s most iconic comic books, so Warner Bros. Animation has secured the cast to match.
Mark Hamill will return to voice the Joker in what many suggest is the definitive origin story for Batman’s nemesis, while Batman himself will be voiced by Kevin Conroy.
Hamill and Conroy have been voicing their respective character since the ’90s, when they both appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, and went on to lend their voices to the Arkham video games, the Justice League animated series and many more DC projects.
‘The chance to work once again with Kevin Conroy, my favourite Batman, is a dream come true for me,’ Hamill said in a statement. ‘I am beyond thrilled to return as the Joker in ‘The Killing Joke!”
‘Mark always enables me to be a better actor,’ Conroy added. ‘I’m thrilled that we’re both back to bring these characters to life in one of the most heralded Batman/Joker stories of all time.’
Tara Strong will play Barbara Gordon. Strong has voiced Gordon since 1997’s The New Batman Adventures, and returns to the Batgirl character for one of her most iconic, and brutal, storylines.
Meanwhile, Ray Wise will voice Commissioner Gordon for the first time. Wise, known for his TV roles in shows such as Twin Peaks and Mad Men, has appeared in an animated DC movie before though, having played Perry White in Superman: Doomsday.
The Killing Joke will premiere at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con.
