The Hunger Games actress is no longer rumored to be playing Robin.
Ever since last October when we learned that Jena Malone (The Hunger Games, Sucker Punch) was cast in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there has been rampant speculation as to whom she will be playing.
Numerous rumors stated Malone would be portraying a female Robin, most likely Carrie Kelley from the comic miniseries The Dark Knight Returns, and those rumors were seemingly solidified when Malone posted a cryptic photo of her with red hair on Instagram.
However, it now appears that Latino-Review actually knows whom she will be portraying…
It’s Barbara Gordon.
That’s right, Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, aka Oracle.
While we still don’t know if Malone will don a Batsuit or provide Batman tech-support as Oracle in the film, if this report is true, chances are we’ll see her do one or the other.
My money’s on Malone portraying Oracle, as the universe of Batman v Superman already stars an older Bruce Wayne, and we know from the trailer there was once a Robin, so Oracle appearing, and giving Batman advice during his crusade against the Man of Steel, would make sense.
In most comic iterations of the Caped Crusader, Barbara Gordon secretly fought crime alongside Batman and Robin, against the wishes of her father, Jim Gordon. Barbara was Batgirl until she was shot, and paralyzed, at the hands of the Joker. Since then, she took the identity Oracle, and provides support to the Dark Knight via computers.
Time will tell if this report rings true, but hopefully we’ll see Barbara in the highly-anticipated film.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theater March 25, 2016.
