It’s official—James Gunn’s Superman trailer just dropped, and it looks fantastic. No hyperbole here, no Snyderverse sobbing—this thing has real potential. The tone is classic and sharp, the cast is stacked, and for the first time in a long time, Superman actually feels… well, super.
Let’s start with Lex Luthor. Nicholas Hoult’s take on the iconic bald bastard is menacing, dangerous, and scarily intelligent in presence and tone rather than a goofy erratic psycho (looking at you, Eisenberg). He’s not just some growling billionaire in a turtleneck (though he does wear a turtleneck)—this guy looks like he could dismantle a society and emotionally ruin you in one monologue.
Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan is somehow the most grounded part of this alien-filled world. Her Lois Lane doesn’t feel like a sidekick or a damsel—she feels like someone who could break a national story and Superman’s heart with the same level of effort.
Now for the man in the cape: David Corenswet. At first glance, sure, he looks the part—broad shoulders, square jaw, the whole package. But it’s his voice and the overall vibe that he brings that seals it. And all we needed was a two minute trailer to feel that way. He radiates calm authority, compassion, and strength without needing to punch a hole through a city block (although he does do this).
We all miss Henry Cavill (RIP to the world’s most underutilized Kryptonian), but Corenswet shows signs of being ten times more active in the role—physically, emotionally, and narratively.
That said… yes, we’re still not sold on the classic red underwear over the suit look. It feels like Superman is wearing his self-esteem on the outside. But hey, if Gunn sticks the landing on everything else, we’ll live. After all, if the trailer is any indication, Superman might just soar again—and for once, we’re excited to see where he lands.
