Abrams has said he will be rewarding fans of the series with “easter eggs” and has decided to maybe leave the bones of the clumsy idiot from Naboo in the dessert of some far off planet.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to a new interview with Vanity Fair, the director said he is considering killing off Jar Jar Binks in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie set to be released this holiday season. Killing off Jar Jar Binks might not please the creator of the Gungan who is also the creator of the entire Star Wars Universe, George Lucas. Now that George is no longer in the driver’s seat, there is little he can do but comment on how the film will turn out.
“I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there,” said Abrams, “I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.”
Jar Jar Binks was introduced in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and made an appearance in the the fallowing two prequels to the original Star Wars trilogy, The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith. George Lucas originally created the alien to provide comic relief and to have a funny character for younger fans to enjoy. In the end Jar Jar Binks has been labled one of the worst charters in movie cinema history.
J.J. Abrams said that he has already put some Star Wars references in the movie but explains what makes them so special.
“What I realized early on was it was all about point of view – meaning it’s not like you just objectively throw in a star field or a spaceship or a desert planet or whatever the thing. The question is, who is that person in that experience? Why does it matter to them? What are they desperate for, or afraid of?”
“That, to me, has been the constant struggle: to make sure that none of these things are treated like either they’re a museum piece and we’re trying to honor them, or they’re gratuitous and thrown in because, well, it’s a Star Wars movie, so you’ve got to put these things in. Everything has got to be essential to the characters in the film.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and staring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis will be coming to a galaxy near you December 18, 2015.
