SPOILERS FOR STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen the former Ben Solo, now Kylo Ren, killed his own father Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens you can be sure that audience members all around the world cried out in pain at once. Han Solo, the space smuggler that had stolen a princess and hearts since his first appearance in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was gone and with him any chance of us ever seeing Han Solo ever again. Or was it?
Right after the Directors Guild of America screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens J.J. Abrams sat down to talk about the Han Solo standalone film, which you can watch here, and dish out some details for fans.
“It will not be, “Here’s where he was born and this is how he was raised.” I think what it will be is what was he like 10 years earlier—maybe a little earlier, you’ll get a glimpse. But Kurosawa once said the heroes are the ones that are still changing and the villains are locked and petrified into what they are, and Harrison embodies in Force Awakens someone who is still not settled on who he is.”
At first, Lawrence Kasdan was reluctant to return to Star Wars after his involvement in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but when the screenwriter was offered the chance to work on the standalone Han Solo fan he jumped at the opportunity to bring his favorite character back to life once more. Now we just have to wait three years and four months to see Han Solo again, that’s not too long. Right?
