Hahahahaha
Good news Divergent fans! Even though the third entry in the series, Allegiant, was panned by critics and a huge financial disappointment, the fourth film is still coming!
As a TV movie.
Variety reports that the final film in the Divergent series, Ascendant, will not be released in theaters, and instead, Lionsgate will release the title as made for television movie.
Lionsgate’s television division will produce the film, and apparently, plans are being made to introduce new characters in Ascendant so to continue the franchise with a spinoff series, because money.
Originally, the film was set to come to theaters (like the previous entries in the series) in June, 2o17. However, Allegiant was a disaster at the box office and with critics. The film grossed only $179 million on a $110 million budget, and is sitting at a cool 13% on Rotten Tomatoes.
We don’t know what network/streaming service will pick up the film, or if all of the cast from the series will be involved.
Let’s be fair to Divergent. As a half-baked, dull, pointless, and completely unnecessary rip-off of The Hunger Games, perhaps the series was always meant to never come to the big screen. And who knows, maybe now the cancerous trend of splitting up the final entry of a film series into two parts will stop, thanks partially to Allegiant‘s utter incompetence.
You did it Divergent! You finally found a home!
The Divergent Series: Ascendant will probably come to ABC Family. Or is it called Freeform now? Whatever.
