With a director now in hand, who will voice Detective Pikachu?
[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]arlier this year, Legendary Entertainment announced that a live-action Detective Pikachu movie will be in the works. Since then, not much has been said about the movie. But just recently, the biggest step was made by hiring Rob Letterman to direct the movie.
Letterman is well-known for directing Goosebumps, Shark Tale, and Monsters vs. Aliens. All of those movies were successful under Letterman, so the expectations for Detective Pikachu will be high. The next thing that has to be done is finding a cast for the movie. Alex Hirsch will write the screenplay and Nicole Perlman will co-write the script with Hirsch.
Detective Pikachu is based off of the Japanese video game Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo that was released for the Nintendo 3DS. In this game, a trainer named Tim Goodman and his trusty side-kick Pikachu go on a mission to find his father and complete other Pokemon mysteries.
After the announcement of the movie, many fans suggested that Danny DeVito should be the actor to voice Detective Pikachu. Check out the trailer made by a fan on how it might look if he did voice Detective Pikachu!
Universal Pictures will distribute the film outside Japan, but there has been no official word on when the movie will be released.
