Pacific Rim 2 Gets a Release Date

Regardless of its past performance, Pacific Rim will get its sequel and now an official release date.

After a rather disappointing box office result for the first film, Pacific Rim was seen as somewhat of a failure with no sequel seen in its future. However, recent news announced that John Boyega and crew will be back for another follow-up installment of the sci-fi film.

The film had a mediocre performance in the states with most of its success coming from across the pond in other countries. Raking in around $100 million domestically and another $300 million worldwide sounded like a pretty hefty profit when you try and forget the film cost $200 million to produce. A sequel was talked about early on, only to have the rug swept out from beneath when Legendary backed out prematurely. However, a recent purchase of the film’s rights by the Chinese film group, the Dailan Wanda Group, the sequel is back on track for production.

Guillermo del Toro will step down to the producer’s seat with Daredevil’s Steven S DeKnight taking the big director’s chair. Jurassic World writer, Derek Connolly is in charge of writing the script despite del Toro apparently having a recent script written for a film sequel. More details of the film’s plot are definitely to come, but for now we only have its official release date of February 23rd, 2018.
