DC’s newest superhero is finally revealed!
Although we won’t be seeing him for a while on the big screen, Shazam (played by Zachary Levi) has his first official photo released!
Shazam tells the story of a 14-year old boy named Billy who turns into an adult superhero when shouting one word: SHAZAM! Just like that, he turns from scrawny boy to muscular superhero!
Asher Angel plays 14-year old Billy, while Freddy Feeman plays as Billy’s best friend. Most people will know Feeman for his breakout role in IT. Levi’s breakout role was in Chuck, which lasted for 5 seasons. Considering that this has the looks of a comedy-action film, so Levi should fit in smoothly with this role.
In an interview with EW, director David F. Sandberg talked about putting together Shazam:
“I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman. It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for.”
Although Sandberg has been known recently for his horror-movie hits (such as Annebelle: Creation and Lights Out), Shazam! has the looks of a superhero movie meshed with the movie Big. That combination into a movie would be a nice change of pace and perhaps something that DC needs to kickstart something in their superhero movie industry.
Shazam! will be released to theaters on April 5th, 2019!
