Even with Star Wars VII putting up the best rating numbers, fans still miss the man that made it all happen!

[toggler title=”TL:DR” ]Brazilian Fan makes petition on Change.org to bring back George Lucas for Episode 9. Petition currently has over 6,300 signatures. Despite the attempt, Lucas already said he’s done with Star Wars. [/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter the Star Wars franchise made their big return to the big screen and shattered all of the major box office records, there are some that still believe that Star War founder and former director George Lucas should still be directing the franchise.

In fact, there is a petition on Change.org where fans are trying to get Lucas to take over in time to direct Star Wars Episode 9, instead of former Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. According to Bleeding Cool, the petition was originally created by brazilian fan Yuri Luiz, who has currently put together just over 6,300 signatures on his petition to bring back Lucas. The petition has been online for over a week, which isn’t that much considering how popular Star Wars is. The petition says the following:

“Bring back George Lucas for the Star Wars movies. Put the father of the franchise as director of Episode IX . We really want this, please.

We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow , but he’s not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX. George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the Father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away ….

We would like to see him again involved with the franchise. Thank you so much.”

Luiz did put this together, using a translator to help with the whole message. He contradicts himself when he says he has no problem with Trevorrow directing, but ends by saying “he’s not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX.” He minds well have just said that he’s not the right guy, instead of trying to talk him up to start.

As commendable as this petition’s attempt is to bring back Lucas to directing Star Wars, nothing will change from what’s already being planned. George Lucas said that he is done with Star Wars for good. He wanted to get away from the franchise and he did that by selling the franchise to Disney, who did not leave him completely out of the development of the new Star Wars movie or leave him out of any project. Lucas didn’t like the ideas that were being presented and left Disney to create the next generation of Star Wars. In that light, it doesn’t make sense to bring Lucas back if he doesn’t agree with the story line that has already been created.

This doesn’t go against what Lucas has done in creating Star Wars; he has done amazing things for the franchise. But with where the storyline is going in the newest trilogy, it just seems like it is best if he sits on the sideline and watch how the new story unfolds. In an interview with Charlie Rose, Lucas explains how he only wants to make movies where he is solely in charge.

I’m gonna make movies that only I wanna see and I wanna do. I’ve always wanted to do that. I fell into popular movies by accident. I always disliked Hollywood theatrical movies. I didn’t want anything to do with them.

As far as this petition goes, it seems like a last stand that never had a chance from the start. George Lucas isn’t coming back and fans will eventually realize that. Only time will be able to eventually sway the rest of the fans toward the new image of Star Wars.
