[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to a post on social media by the creator, Pokemon Prism has been cancelled after eight years of development. The game was four days away from getting released to the public. The release date for Pokemon Prism was Christmas Day.
“Pokemon Prism has been cancelled,” wrote Adam, the one-man team behind the game, in a Facebook post. “Thank you all for your support throughout the years. I’m sorry it ended like this. I will make a longer statement regarding this soon, but expect this page to be shutdown in a few days.”

A document that was sent to Adam from Nintendo’s Australian-based team states that Pokemon Prism and Pokemon Brown are “a violation of Nintendo’s intellectual property rights,” demanding that Adam “immediately cease any further work on this game.”
“Nintendo understands that you are a fan of its original products and its Pokémon franchise,” the letter reads. “Whilst this is appreciated, it unfortunately does not alter Nintendo’s important role to ensure that all of its valuable intellectual property is fully protected and that there is no use made of any of its intellectual property rights without proper supervision and authorization.”
To avoid legal troubles, Adam was forced to not only discontinue his work on Pokemon Prism, but also take down any other downloads, including Pokemon Brown, from his website. His website now has a legal notice and a short message, showing gratitude towards all his fans for their support over the years.
The success of Pokemon Brown got fans excited for the final version of Pokemon Prism after eight years of work on the game. The game was to feature new maps and characters never-before seen in any other Pokemon game. The game also included 20 gyms that you could collect badges from.
Pokemon Prism was able to get a lot of attention from Twitch streams and created partnerships to help gain a huge fanbase. But instead of getting released, it joins the likes of Pokemon Uranium and other games that didn’t get released due to copyright issues. Pokemon Uranium was taken down one week after getting released.
