Earlier this week, director Andy Muschietti (It, It Chapter 2), was out moderating a panel for an upcoming movie, Underwater, where he stopped to address some details about his upcoming Flash film within the DCEU.

Speaking with ThatHashtagShow, Muschietti revealed was quick to say one tiny bit about The Flash film, but that tiny bit had some big impact on our expectations. His exact quote was that the movie will be a

different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting

The Flashpoint storyline has become one of the most revered and significant arcs within all of DC comics, on and off the screen. Because of Flash’s desire to save his mother by going back in time, the entirety of the DC universe was reset with massive repercussions on the DC multiverse. This eventually leads to a crossover with Watchmen and even a battle between Thomas Wayne and Bruce Wayne and- you get it, a lot happened. Probably more than what we will see in this movie, but one thing is for certain; if it involves the Flashpoint storyline in any way, we will likely see Thomas Wayne as Batman and the Reverse-Flash as the primary villain.

If there is a possibility of seeing Thomas Wayne as Batman in this film, we have one actor in mind who should play the role- Jeffrey Dean Morgan. You may recall that we even reported back in 2017 that there were rumors about this being true. In fact, JDM teased it himself during an interview with Kimmel, and I will be damned if he doesn’t have a twinkle in his eye about it that makes us think it is going to happen.

See? He wouldn’t even deny it. And all of this would even make more sense if you recall at the beginning of Batman vs Superman where we get a quick glimpse of Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan as Thomas and Martha Wayne, respectively. This would also suggest that Cohan could return as that timeline’s/universe’s Joker, but maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves.

At this point, all we know is that Ezra Miller will star in The Flash, it will be directed by Andy Muschietti, and will contain a plot that is but isn’t Flashpoint, and that the movie is set to release in 2022. Regardless, our hopes are higher than ever, so please, please let this movie be good. please let it do justice to this storyline/arc. Our hearts can’t take another Suicide Squad.
