(Now) The hunt for Charizard begins once more.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the original Base Set of Pokémon cards would be rereleased in Japan to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
While the rest of the world won’t be receiving this collectable nostalgia, we are getting the next best thing: Evolutions.
Pokémon TCG: XY—Evolutions is the latest expansion in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. However, what makes this expansion so special is that it features modernized reprints of classic cards from the original Base Set.
This means the cards will feature the iconic artwork from nearly two decades ago, but they have now been beefed up with stronger attacks and greater HP, reflecting changes made in the TCG. Check out the differences in Charizard below.
The expansion also includes 12 new Pokémon-EX cards, five Mega Evolution Pokémon, and four new powerful Pokémon BREAK cards. Additionally, the cards come in booster packs that look similar to the original packs.
By just looking at these cards we’re instantly reminded of late 90’s Pokemania and trading cards on the playground. We can’t wait to rip a pack open.
