[dropcap size=small]B[/dropcap]ack in July, we posted an article about the teasers coming from Dwayne Johnson in regards to which DC comic hero or villain he would play. For a couple of years now, it had been rumored to be Black Adam, then Shazam himself, then Black Adam, and so on and so forth. But now it looks like deals were made and papers were signed, as The Rock posted via his Twitter account who he would be playing in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Shazam!
BLACK ADAM. A complex psychology, motivated by bad ass dominance with a devilish charm. This'll be fun. #Teth #Shazam http://t.co/zE4wtri3sT

Though Shazam! is set in the world of DC and the character even makes his way to becoming a member of the Justice League, it is not yet known what future the movie franchise will have in part to the upcoming Justice League films and their tie-ins.
In addition to the casting announcement, New Line Cinema appears to be going with Goosebumps writer, Darren Lemke to pen the script for the upcoming DC comic film, with Dwayne Johnson and Hiram Garcia producing the movie.
Within the past few years, the character of Shazam, aka Captain Marvel, has gained traction through the rebooted comic series New 52, and the DC animated series. The character even saw himself as the main hero in his own animated film where Black Adam and Shazam went at it even besting Superman when he attempted to interfere.
With no director yet attached, it is likely we will here more news just around the corner to add to all we have heard this past week. The movie is expected to hit theaters sometime in late 2016, though this is subject to change.
