Dumbledore may Return in Harry Potter Spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts’

Michael Gambon seems to think so!

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e’ve been getting a steady stream of news about the Harry Potter Spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them lately, but recent developments are sure to get potterhead’s everywhere truly jumping about the place in excited anticipation.

The spin-off – which will follow the adventures of Zoologist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) – is an original title entirely penned by J.K. Rowling, and will be set in the same wizarding world 70 years prior to Harry’s day.

Entertainment Weekly first sparked the idea that we may see some old familiar faces in the Fantastic Beasts, and given that the film will be set in 1926, it limits us to a select few characters that could logically be in the project.

Of course, eyes turned immediately to Dumbledore, and since he was born in 1881 – which would make our beloved headmaster 45 years old when we meet Newt Scamander gallivanting about New York City – he could most certainly come into play somehow.

Michael Gambon, who we all know and love as our favourite wizard headmaster, spoke to the Express about Fantastic Beasts at the Premiere of Dad’s Army, where he confirmed that he wished to be involved, and revealed that he believes a young Dumbledore will be featured :

I want to be in it, yes. They’ve got a Dumbledore. They’ll have a young Dumbledore, won’t they? But I could be his dad. They could flashback to me.

Even though Gambon couldn’t play a young Dumbledore, he certainly made a case of wishing to play Albus’s dad:

Can you mention it to them if you see them? [J.K. Rowling and Co.] I’d like to be his dad.

I think we’d all love to see Gambon again, even if he is playing another member of the Dumbledore family. And Gambon seems to think a young Dumbledore will feature, so we can say that’s a pretty solid yes for seeing Dumbledore, right?

Rowling would be crazy not to, the fandom would be overwhelmed with joy to see him at a younger age. Even if we don’t see Dumbledore in the upcoming film due this year, sequels are set to follow in the shape of a new trilogy series, so we may see Albus in the second or third film in the franchise.

Let’s all rally for Gambon to be in the spin-off!
