Pokémon: I Choose You!, the 20th (dear lord) Pokémon movie has finally received an English-dubbed theatrical trailer. Check it out below.
The movie is a retelling of the first episode of the Pokémon anime, where Ash Ketchum receives and eventually befriends Pikachu, and then encounters Ho-Oh. However, this trailer shows that the movie is much more than just the first episode, as it appears to be a globe-trotting adventure where Ash and his new buddy seek out the legendary Rainbow Pokémon.
Of course, Ash and Pikachu have some companions on their journey, but they aren’t who you’d expect. Instead of traveling with Brock and Misty, Ash is joined by Sorrel (the dude with Lucario), and Verity (the girl with a Piplup).
I have no idea why it was decided to retcon Brock and Misty, but these new companions look like generic replacements. Plus , Ash already traveled with a girl/Piplup combo; remember Dawn?
Anyway, aside from those two trash-clowns, everything else in the trailer looks great. The movie appears to be a new, full-scale adventure while pinching us with effective nostalgia along the way. For example, Charmander! HE LOOKS SO SAD.
AND that piano melody of the original theme song at the end was the cherry on top of a nostalgic sundae. A nostalgic sundae with two pieces of garbage in it. Sorrel and Verity are the garbage.
