[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]quare Enix has announced the release of Dragon Quest XI for both Sony and Nintendo. This is unprecedented for Square Enix and a big move on their part considering Dragon Quest VIII was released on the Playstation 2 back in 2004, while the next game in the series, Dragon Age IX, was released for the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS on Nintendo. Dragon Quest is one the most popular game series in Japan, some would even say the game is more popular than Pokemon.
A release date for Dragon Quest XI is aimed for some time in 2016, according to a live broadcast in Japan. The Playstation 4 version is being developed directly at Square Enix and it will use the highly acclaimed Unreal Engine. On the other hand the 3DS version will bring the best of both worlds, running in full 3D on the top screen and while the bottom screen will be in 2D. The Nintendo NX version, its specifications and what it will look like is a complete mystery at this time.
