[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he director of the live-action Disney film Mulan, Niki Caro, recently said that it will not be a musical. In a interview with Moviefone, Caro said that the film will be “a big, gnarly martial arts epic” with “no songs right now”. She also said that the film will be “extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving”.
While there is a possibility that Mulan could include some songs it does not look very likely right now. It is important to note that Sony is also making a Mulan film, so having the music to go along with the film would have given Disney a large advantage between the two films. In either case it will be interesting to see how Caro fills the time without the music numbers.
Mulan is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on November 2, 2018.
