Mark your calendars and prepare to adjust your hype levels accordingly, because Bungie has officially announced a new Destiny 2 Reveal Event set for March 6th at 9:00 a.m. PST. The event promises to outline “the upcoming year of Destiny 2,” a phrase which now triggers an almost Pavlovian mix of cautious curiosity and deeply rooted dread among longtime Guardians.

Bungie is calling this next chapter “Edge of Fate”, which sounds cool until you remember that the gameplay probably won’t divert much away from making you do the same recycled public event on repeat while your Ghost weeps in your inventory.

While the details are scarce, it’s widely expected that this reveal will feature The Nine, and will likely shed light on their upcoming initiative titled “Frontiers.” And if you’re wondering what “Frontiers” could possibly mean, take a wild guess: probably a couple of new beautiful set locations, some sleek art direction, and the exact same gameplay loop we’ve all been chewing through since 2019. Yes, Bungie might throw in a new exotic or a seasonal gimmick that feels shiny for a week or two, but let’s be honest — more of the same with the occasional changing the UI every several months isn’t exactly going to draw us back in.

The only thing that seems to change in these reveal trailers is how many mid-air Hunter supers they showcase, how often a Titan shotgun slides across the Crucible in slow motion, and whether or not a Warlock flings a Nova Bomb at three Vex red-bars while synth-heavy music plays in the background. And you know that banger of a track will slap — Bungie still knows how to edit a trailer with mass sex Vex appeal. It’s just unfortunate that the gameplay it’s hyping feels like a clip show of all the other trailers you’ve seen before.

And Let’s be real: after the Marathon reveal, which looked like Destiny 2’s Crucible wearing an Apex legends trench coat, it’s hard to pretend like Bungie is on the cutting edge of innovation. That showcase made one thing depressingly clear — if this is how Bungie handles a brand-new IP, what hope does Destiny 2 have of feeling fresh again?

So, ask yourself: if they can’t innovate with a blank canvas, why would “Destiny 2: Frontiers” be any different? You already know what’s coming — three new shaders, a dozen time-gated triumphs, a reskinned ritual weapon you’ll forget exists, and probably something that will get nerfed in Week 3 after everyone figures out how to break it.

Still, we’ll probably tune in. Why? Because at the end of the day, we’re all just Guardians waiting for that one update to make it all feel worth it again. But that likely won’t happen until Bungie’s leadership’s contractually obligated stock options clear through the end of 2026 followed by Sony finally kicking them to the curb and rebooting the franchise. One can dream.

March 6th. 9 a.m. PST. Destiny 2: Edge of Fate. Bring snacks. Leave your expectations at the door.
