Destiny 2’s Latest Star Wars Collab Has Fans Saying “That’s No Moon, That’s a Cash Grab”

The argument isn’t “we don’t want crossovers,” it’s “can we at least make them look like they belong in the universe we’ve been playing in for a decade?”

Destiny 2 is heading into its “Year of Prophecy,” a name that sounds ominous enough — and what better way to kick things off than by launching yet another high-profile crossover, once again with Star Wars. Yes, the Force has entered the Tower in the form of the ‘Dark Side Legends Bundle’, and with it comes a fresh trio of armor sets: Darth Vader for Titans, Kylo Ren for Warlocks, and General Grievous for Hunters. Take a look:

On paper, that sounds like a slam dunk — who doesn’t want to cosplay as space-wizards dripping with Dark Side energy? But for many players, this feels less like a celebration and more like a marketing synergy gone rogue. Instead of hyping up the new expansion, fans are wondering if the Tower is slowly turning into a Fortnite lobby. One need not look far down in the comments section of the trailer to see what we are talking about.

The backlash isn’t just about Star Wars being in Destiny — it’s about how blatantly it’s in Destiny. These armor sets don’t feel like Destiny-fied interpretations of the characters — they look like the actual characters just walked through a portal into Bungie’s universe and brought their entire wardrobe with them.

There’s no blending of aesthetics, no subtle infusion of Destiny’s visual language. Show someone these armor sets without context, and you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a screenshot from Star Wars Battlefront or some Galaxy’s Edge mobile game. The argument isn’t “we don’t want crossovers,” it’s “can we at least make them look like they belong in the universe we’ve been playing in for a decade?”

Sure, some Guardians will absolutely throw their stacks of Silver at the chance to look like spacefaring Sith Lords, and you can’t deny that Vader’s cape game is strong, especially on a Titan. But for a community already worried about the game’s shifting priorities, this is just another sign that Destiny is trading its hard-earned identity for flashy franchise cosplay.

Between this, The Witcher, Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, and other crossovers, the line between Guardian and guest star is starting to blur. We’re not saying Bungie’s going full Fortnite… but we are saying we wouldn’t be surprised if Master Chief starts doing the Electric Slide in the next seasonal trailer.
