The feature film will conclude the critically praised series.
It looks like HBO’s Deadwood may finally be returning.
Variety reports that HBO is currently having “very preliminary discussions” regarding the resurrection of the Western series via a feature film.
For those unfamiliar, Deadwood ran for three seasons on HBO from 2004 to 2006. The series revolves around the growth of Deadwood, South Dakota in the late 1800’s, as well as corruption within the community. Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant led the ensemble cast of the series.
Another member of the cast, Garret Dillahunt, further fueled speculation that Deadwood may be coming back with a number of tweets he posted earlier this week.
So uh….I'm hearing credible rumors about a #Deadwood movie. #Everybodypray

Come on @HBO…you made @entouragemovie. Give the #Deadwood fans some closure. #Youcandoit.

Despite critical praise, the show was canceled before production for a fourth season could commence, and because of that, a true ending for the series was never shot.
Deadwood ranks among The Wire, Oz, and Game of Thrones, as one of HBO’s best series, and perhaps one of the greatest television shows ever, for that matter. It boasts incredible writing and performances, and not to mention very liberal usage of the F-bomb (it was used over 1.5 times per minute of footage in the whole series).
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Deadwood will receive the closure it deserves.
