[dropcap size=small]O[/dropcap]ne of films most iconic villains, Darth Vader, is set to return to the big screen in the Star Wars spinoff movie, Rogue One, as reported by Birth.Movies.Death. Devin Faraci, a writer for the site, reported that Vader will be a background villain in the movie, most likely seen through holo-communication or video transmissions.

Rogue One is set in the time period before A New Hope and is centered around a group of Rebel fighter pilots, presumably X-Wing pilots, on a mission to try and steal the plans for the Death Star. Darth Vader was one of the main Sith commanders at the time and had a large role in the building of the planet sized space cannon. Grand Moff Tarkin, played by the late Peter Cushing, was commander of the first Death Star.

Vader’s appearance in Rogue One would be the first time the Sith Lord has appeared on the big screen since the brief appearance at the end of Revenge of the Sith in 2005. He may be voiced once again by James Earl Jones who lent his golden pipes to the character for the original trilogy. Recently, news broke that Forrest Whitaker would be taking an unspecified role in the movie and could make a great replacement if Jones does not come back.

Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn and is directed by Gareth Edwards.

Rogue One flies into the theaters on December 16th, 2016.
