The rapper and actor joins the DCU as a villain, but not the one everyone thought.
[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]Common will play The Tattooed Man in Suicide Squad.[/toggler]
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen DC announced that Common would play a role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, comic book fans naturally began jumping to conclusions as to who he would play. Names like John Stewart and Bronze Tiger were mentioned, but the most popular theory was that the Wanted star would play Aquaman’s nemesis, Black Manta.
Well it turns out everyone was wrong. That is, if you believe Cinema Blend, who report that Common will play Abel Tarrant, a Green Lantern villain more commonly known as The Tattooed Man. Common was seen sporting a large snake tattoo on his head, the Coast City burglar’s most recognisable piece of ink, and Tarrant does have a history with the Squad in the comics.
Tarrant got his powers during a burglary gone wrong. Exposed to some strange chemicals, he gained the ability to form solid objects from thin air. He tattoos the items he needs most on his body, so they’re easier to access. He will already have his powers when we meet him in Suicide Squad, and it is expected he will join Task Force X, which includes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Katana (Karen Fukuhama), in order to shorten his prison sentence.
Suicide Squad opens on August 5th 2016.
