Captain America is definitely on Brie Larson’s side.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]t this years Wizard World convention, Chris Evans was asked about the recent rumours surrounding actress Brie Larson, who’s said to be the frontrunner for the role of Captain Marvel.
Evans was interviewed alongside Marvel co-stars Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Solider) and Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon). Once Larson’s name was raised, Evans was the first Marvel member to take to his mic to express his excitement and delight about Larson potentially joining the MCU:
I really hope that happens. I love Brie Larson. We did a movie together back in ‘09, we did Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I cannot say enough about Brie Larson. I think she is phenomenal, and I really hope that happens.
In Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Larson played Scott Pilgrims ex-girlfriend and lead singer, Envy Adams, whilst Evans played action movie star and skateboard extraordinaire, Lucas Lee. Clearly Larson made a good impression on Evans during their time on the project, and given how great she was as Envy, it’s not so surprising.
Mackie went on to quip that they should ‘think outside the box’ and ‘cast a dude’ as Captain Marvel. Oh, Mackie. The crowd’s booing reaction says it all, and we’re with them on that one.

So there you have it. Much like Captain Marvel in the comics, Larson has Captain America himself on her side, and that’s definitely got to count for something. The reaction to Larson as Captain Marvel has been pretty positive so far, with many fans fully embracing Larson as Carol Danvers.
With the hope of introducing Captain Marvel in the upcoming Infinity War before the standalone film is released, Evans may get to work with Larson again very soon.
We’ll just have to wait and see if Larson officially joins the MCU, which at this stage seems pretty likely.
Captain Marvel is currently slated for release 8 March, 2019.
