Spectre and The Peanuts Movie bring the box office numbers back up for the weekend.
After a few weeks of pretty lousy box office reports, this past weekend there was a significant rise in ticket sales. This weekend was the opening weekend for two significant films for the box office, Bond’s latest installment, Spectre, and The Peanuts Movie. These two films topped the box office producing some pretty large numbers for the weekend.
In the top spot, Spectre, brought in a whopping $73 million after being released in the US on Friday. The catch of this movie is that it’s been out for a little less than two weeks internationally already with a foreign gross of a little over $223 million. The film’s budget is just around $245 million, so with the combination of international sales, this movie is already seeing a hefty profit. It can also be expected to continue to have rising success in the states.
Coming in second on the box office was the modern animation remake of The Peanuts Movie. Charlie Brown and gang brought in a noticeable weekend box office amount of around $45 million domestically and about $5 million internationally. With a production budget of about $99 million dollars, the Peanuts have a bit of ways before they make a profit, but the film is surely capable of continued success in the upcoming weeks.
Some other notables in the weekend box office were shown by The Martian, Goosebumps, and Hotel Transylvania 2. The Martian has been the only film showing significant success in the box office for the past few weeks coming in the third spot this weekend having a weekend gross of nearly $10 million. This brings the films total gross to just under $200 million domestically while grossing another $261 million internationally. With a production budget of only $108 million, the film is being seen as a huge success. Goosebumps took the fourth spot with a weekend gross of about $7 million and Hotel Transylvania 2 took the sixth spot with around $3.55 million. Hotel Transylvania 2 is in its seventh week in theaters with a gross of just over $161 million domestically. The complete top 10 domestic box office results are shown below.
