Randy Pitchford took the stage to first state that a new Borderlands game is coming, will not be Battle Royale, but will be so much more and ‘Huge’.
Here are some notes form the stream on what Randy Pitchford had to say during a breakdown of the ‘Mask of Mayhem’ teaser trailer that came out earlier this week.
- Handsome Jack is dead. Like, seriously dead. His mask was teased in the trailer, but he is gone and not coming back.
- Tiny Tina is much older, will be in the game.
- Moxxi returns with an “awesome” new bar.
- Zer0 is getting a new skin
- 2 new villains, one male and female, were teased.
- Hidden Morse code message in the trailer translates to ‘drink your ovaltine’.
- Characters from various Borderlands titles (including Tales) will be in the new game.
Randy left the stage promising big things for Borderlands, but first he wanted to give some coverage about the Gearbox Publishing division, and mentioned a few titles they are working on.
- Launching the new ‘They Came From Below’ DLC available April 4th, 2019 for We Happy Few.
- Bulletstorm ‘Duke of Switch Edition’ is coming to Nintendo Switch
- tinyBuild is working on another game called ‘Pathologic 2’ which seems to be a creepy horror title which appears to focus on a plague that has killed many and left a lot of children alone.
- New partnership with System Error.
- New partnership with Squanch Games, working with Rick & Morty creator, Justin Roiland. The game, which is titled ‘Trover Saves the Universe’, is weird and obscure but shares similar visual humor and voice cast from Rick & Morty.
- Another title was revealed, Risk of Rain 2 a looter shooter co-op game. Available now on Early Access for Steam. Looks really cool, single player or co-op. Valve and Gearbox have an exclusive deal on this title where when you buy one, you get a free copy of the game to gift to another (deal lasts until March 2020).
Randy came back on stage and asked if anyone in the audience was celebrating a birthday. Two fans from the audience came up on the stage and Randy gifted them both with a special Borderlands tabletop game, featuring Tiny Tina’s Tea Party. Game comes with a special SHiFT code, and instructions on building a Claptrap (as is the center focus of the game). Giving incorrect parts to other players so their Claptrap robot is essential for disrupting their own Claptrap.
After explaining the game, Randy spreads the cards out to perform a ‘Magic Trick’, where he impressed the audience with a little sleight of hand (don’t ask for an explanation). Then, Randy teases that this is the ‘new Borderlands game’. But then…
A crew of Gearbox staff took the stage to talk about their various roles in titles like Borderlands 2 VR, and what is new with the existing VR experience. They announced that they will be including all of the existing Borderlands 2 content into the VR version later this year, for FREE.The team then introduced a video that ran into a few hiccups at the start, but eventually things began rolling again.
- The entire Handsome Collection is getting a HD Remaster which will allow you to bring in your old save file. New Free UHD Pack is coming on April 3 for everyone (on PS4, Xbox One and PS4).
- A video kicked off the world premier for… and then the video failed again. And then again. Randy Pitchford and the Gearbox team took to the stage once more to introduce a Borderlands 1 remaster that was re-built to 4K visuals for PS4, XBO, and PC.
- The game will support SHiFT keys and will be getting real heads and skins.
- This game is not just a polished re-master, they actually made new content and tweaked the title to add what fans wanted with many QoL improvements.
- Mini-Map will be added
- Co-Op player count goes from 2-4.
- Will be available ‘immediately’ (everyone in the audience will get a free copy).
Finally, the new (actually new) Borderlands title then took center stage. Borderlands 3 is official and it is coming. WITH OVER ONE BILLION GUNS!!!!
