It’s here, folks! Bioware’s teaser trailer for its new IP, Anthem.
Rumoured to be the equivalent of Activision’s Destiny, and given the scenes we see in the teaser trailer, it could very well be. But being the ever-cautious person that I am and let’s be honest…Mass Effect: Andromeda, I am hesitant to jump on the bandwagon just yet.
The trailer starts out with a scene of a very large wall and as expected, a very serious voice over telling us that this wall is all that protects us from the outside. Queue snarling beasts from just beyond the wall. We are warned that we “can either live with the choices we make or die trying to change them”.
The final scene cuts to a suit of armour reminiscent of Titan Fall, although much smaller. We are told “the story doesn’t end here. It’s just the beginning.”
Sources say that this new project of Bioware’s was code-named Dylan.
“because Hudson and team wanted to make the Bob Dylan of video games—one that would be referenced for years to come.”
Pretty bold statement, if you ask me!
EA CEO, Andrew Wilson goes on to say,
“We are very pleased with the progress of our new action IP from BioWare. The design is stunning. Gameplay mechanics are excellent. And the action will be exhilarating. The game is built around a live service, and through our creative process, we’ve decided to add more to the disruptive new social designs for our players. To accommodate that, we are moving the launch date for this project into fiscal year ’19.”
Now all this is very exciting and if indeed meant to be EA’s response to Destiny, we could have another amazing game on our hands. Hopefully worth the 2 year wait!
