There was a lot of competition in all of the categories!

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]his time of year everyone looks back on the year that was and thinks about their highs and lows of the year. This year was filled with a lot of lows, and a lot drinks, but their were some bright spots throughout the year. In particular, there were some video games, movies, and television shows that made this year not seem so bad. Here are my top picks from 2016.

Video Game: Overwatch

Overwatch was one of the biggest games of 2016 and it was also my favorite. For those that do not know Overwatch is an online multiplayer game that pits teams of six against each other in objective based game types. You can pick from over 23 characters to create your team and each character comes with their own special set of attacks and abilities that makes team work a must if you want to be victorious on the battlefield. Overwatch is a fun mix of strategy, shooter, and competitive multiplayer that is hard to put down which makes it my top game for 2016.

Movie: Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War was one of the top movies of 2016 and for good reason. In a plot that somewhat resembles the Euthyphro Paradox (is something good because the gods deem it so or is something good because it is inherently good) Captain America fights to save his friend Bucky, aka the Winter Soldier, because he believes it is the right thing to do. Meanwhile Tony Stark fights to stop Captain America and arrest Bucky because the government, or the gods going back to Euthyphro Paradox, says that is the right thing to do. This gave the film an interesting dynamic while also adding the Black Panther and Spiderman to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Altogether this made Captain America: Civil War my top movie of 2016.

Television Show: Daredevil Season 2

Daredevil Season 2 was an emotional roller coaster that kept you on the edge of your seat throughout every episode. With Matthew Murdock continuing his quest to protect Hell’s Kitchen he runs into a centuries old group called The Hand that is ready to start a war. Add in the Punisher and Elektra and you have a volatile cocktail that is ready to explode at any moment. Daredevil‘s dark and gritty nature is a wonderful addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where in the movies things are not always so dark and cold. The Punisher is one of my all-time favorite comic book characters and to see him portrayed in such a way that shows his anger and despair along with his more gentle nature was incredible. All of this made Daredevil Season 2 my top television show of 2016.
