The 69 years old actor calls Disney’s censorship “a kind of Kremlin attitude”
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen it comes to the upcoming Star Wars movie, everything is kept secret and Disney prefers it that way. Going for the wow-factor is something that the entertainment juggernaut has been meticulously striving for ever since the sequel to the original trilogy was announced. It’s understandable that Disney is handling The Force Awakens like a top secret classified operation, but has Disney gone too far? Anthony Daniels thinks so.
Anthony Daniels, who is famous for his role as C-3PO in the past six Star Wars movies, recently sat down with The Guardian in an interview regarding Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. While discussing the highly anticipated movie Anthony Daniels brought up how Disney has been trying to keep him and others quiet about nearly every detail regarding the film.
“The secrecy has been beyond ludicrous. For heaven’s sake, it’s a movie. When I got the script, it was typed in black on paper of the deepest red so you couldn’t photocopy it. I got a hangover just reading it.”
Disney even went so far as to censor a tweet that Anthony Daniels recently put on Twitter after he mentioned a fellow actor who is in The Force Awakens.
“I said that I’d met so-and-so. An actor who plays a … thing in the film. A character. Immediately I received a message from Disney: ‘Remove the tweet! You’re not allowed to say that!’ Honestly. It’s a kind of Kremlin attitude. Look, I know perfectly well not to tell you now what I’m giving you for a Christmas present because it would spoil the surprise. And these films are all about opening the box on Christmas Day.”
Anyone can relate to Anthony Daniels’ frustration with Disney’s methods of keeping details regarding one of their most prized films quiet. At the same time, you can understand why Disney is being so careful. If too many details relating to The Force Awakens gets out to the public than that means the questions surrounding details about the movie drops. If that happens some fans may leave the movie theater not as impressed as Disney would like. Still, maybe Disney needs to relax on their censorship campaign and trust that their actors know when to keep quiet.
