Animated Deadpool Series from Donald Glover no Longer Happening

FX calls it quits on the anticipated cartoon from Childish Gambino.

Last May, it was revealed that Atlanta star Donald Glover and brother Stephen Glover were set to create a Deadpool adult-animated comedy series for the FXX network. The series had already received a 10-episode season order, and was to premiere sometime this year. However, it looks like that’s not happening anymore.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that production on the show will not move forward as the Glovers and FX have left the project.

“Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series,” explained FX in a statement. “FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on Legion, which will continue.”

That’s right, creative differences strikes again! Although chances are the cancelation of this project can indeed just be chalked up to creative differences, there might be a little more happening here.

Disney, who are set to purchase FX via their parent company 20th Century Fox, is currently developing a streaming series of their own to compete this Netflix. Deadpool, one of the most lucrative X-Men properties at the moment, is certainly something Disney has their eyes on, so perhaps they pulled some strings to delay a TV show from happening until they outright own the Merc with a Mouth.

It’s possible! But for now let’s assume the very busy Donald Glover and FX just couldn’t get this project to work, which is a huge bummer.

But hey, at least Deadpool will be back very soon with his untitled sequel hitting theaters on May 18.
