[dropcap size=small]H[/dropcap]arry Potter fans, prepare to be delighted while simultaneously terrified.
According to a press release, J.K. Rowling is giving the world a special Halloween treat by releasing new writing on the Potter series’ most frightening character — Dolores Umbridge.
The 1,700-word story will be released on October 31st on the Pottermore website. The new writing will center on Dolores Umbridge, the malicious, cat-obsessed Senior Undersecretary who is perhaps even more frightening than Lord Volder–uh… “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named”. Umbridge first appeared in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and was played by Imelda Staunton in the film adaptations.
Pottermore teases that:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]Umbridge is not only one of the most malicious Potter characters—she is the only person other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent physical scar on Harry.”
The statement goes on to promise that:
[dropcap size=small]“[/dropcap]The new exclusive J.K. Rowling content provides a rich, 1,700-word back story about Umbridge’s life filled with many new details, as well as Rowling’s revealing first-person thoughts and reflections about the character.”
This new writing follows a string of releases earlier this year by Rowling, which include a fictitious article about the Quidditch World Cup that provided more insight into the lives of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, a liveblog of the events written by Rita Skeeter, and profile about the singing witch, Celestina Warbeck.
