Sony Pictures is revving up its engines for the upcoming Gran Turismo film by adding some big names to its cast. The film, which is based on the popular driving game of the same name, will star Archie Madekwe as a young teenage driver with David Harbour as his mentor and driving instructor. Joining Madekwe and Harbour is Orland Bloom, who has been cast as a racing marketing executive. No word if Bloom is a protagonist or antagonist, given his role.
Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti, of PlayStation Productions, are all producing while Gran Turismo franchise creator and producer Kazunori Yamauchi is set to executive produce. Yamauchi, who is the CEO of Polyphony Digital (the team who created and has overseen the Gran Turismo franchise since they were Polys Entertainment), is a professional racing driver himself so you can bet this film is going to be fairly authentic.
Filming for Gran Turismo is set to begin next week over in Europe with a scheduled release date set for August 11th of next year.
