Earlier today, fans rejoiced as Nintendo unveiled their latest console in the Switch Line, the Nintendo Switch OLED Model. However, those same fans were as quick as the tide to turn when they realized the upgrades were marginal at best. Take a look for yourself below.

Pretty in white, the console boasts a small handful of new features, just… not the ones gamers have been clamoring for. But hey, it’s only $50 more than the standard Switch so… you know, there’s that.
NEW FEATURES
- 7-inch OLED screen
- 1x Ethernet port (in the dock)
- “Enhanced Audio”
- 64GB internal storage
- Same Joy-Cons (yep, with the same inevitable failure)
- and… a kickstand
Bluetooth? Nope. 4K display? No. CPU upgrade? Nah. More RAM? “Ha!” -Some Nintendo exec, probably. But you can look forward to getting the same lousy Joy-Cons that will eventually break on you, so you, know… there’s that, too. Don’t get me wrong, I like Joy-Cons. I just… don’t quite understand why Nintendo hasn’t taken responsibility for its high failure rate, even in this latest console addition.

The screen looks slightly larger and will undoubtedly look sharper with that OLED display. Unfortunately, those who keep their devices docked in most of the time won’t make use of, well, more than half of these new features. This seems odd considering that also means far less reason for existing Switch owners to upgrade.
While those who have been wading in the market hoping for a new Switch model to blow them away with a large assortment of new features might be disappointed, for those that don’t already own a Switch, the $50 markup over the standard model is probably worth it. For everyone else, well, you can hold out even longer for a possibly more robust Switch someday or bite the bullet. We just wish there was more here as the OLED model leaves us severely wanting.
