It finally looks like Sony’s much anticipated Metal Gear Solid film is getting off the ground. According to the Deadline, their sources claim Oscar Isaac (Star Wars Episodes 7-9, Ex Machina) will star as Solid Snake with Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) as the director and Avi Arad as producer.
The film’s script is being written by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) and is based on Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid which was released back in 1998 for the PlayStation.
The game follows Snake, a covert operative who must infiltrate a nuclear weapons facility and neutralize a terrorist organization known as Foxhound. Several aspects of the game became iconic within the gaming community like Snake using a cardboard box to hide from terrorists or the famous alerting sound they’d make when they spotted you.
The game was applauded for it’s cinematic by gamers and critics alike and Metal Gear Solid was released with critical acclaim. A review by IGN in 1998 said it’s “closer to perfection than any other game in PlayStation’s action genre.” Metal Gear Solid even went on to receive an Excellence Award for Interactive Art at the 1998 Japan Media Arts Festival.
Sony Pictures hasn’t released an official release date for the film, nor have they said when production will begin. Regardless, we’re pretty psyched.
