The next instalment for the Titanfall franchise might not follow the first-person shooter theme that we know and love…
There have been a lot of mixed messages lately surrounding Titanfall and whether Titanfall 3 is in the works. In an interview with Eurogamer, Respawn producer Drew McCoy stated that Titanfall 3 wasn’t happening, saying “The world thinks we’re making Titanfall 3 and we’re not – this is what we’re making”, referring to Apex Legends, the Titanfall franchise’s take on a free-to-play battle royale shooter set in the Titanfall universe. With that said, fans of the games had their hopes dashed…
Or so it would have seemed until just a day after the release of Apex Legends when EA announced that another Titanfall game will be coming out this year!
EA CEO Andrew Wilson, who commented on the success of Apex Legends, went on to say that “Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe”. What a way to throw a spanner into the works! But what could this new twist possibly be? No details have been revealed about the game itself yet (of course…), but speculation amongst the Titanfall community is that it might not even be a first-person shooter. WHAAAAT?! However, we aren’t likely to hear much else about this mysterious new chapter for a while yet.
In the meantime, what we do have is Apex Legends, which is all about tactical teamwork, loot boxes and being the last man (or woman) standing. Apex Legends is now available on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. Watch the official cinematic trailer below.
