The smoothest cat in the galaxy is back, baby.
Just a couple of months after Donald Glover portrayed the suave character in Solo, it looks like we’re getting more Lando. Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX.
After heavy rumors that Lando would return in Episode IX, this report gained momentum when Williams had to cancel an appearance at a sci-fi convention due to a scheduling conflict with filming obligations, most likely for the upcoming Star Wars film.
Williams and Harrison Ford at the Force Awakens premiere.
Details on Lando’s role in Episode IX, or how significant his appearance will be have yet to be officially revealed. Episode IX is expected to begin shooting sometime this summer. J.J. Abrams of The Force Awakens is set to direct the film, and stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac will all return. Longtime Abrams collaborator Keri Russell is reportedly set to appear in the film in an unknown role as well (#Rey’sdrunkmom).
While it will absolutely be awesome to see Williams finally get to play Lando again, it’s going to be very bitter-sweet as the core cast from the original trilogy are no longer involved with the sequel trilogy.
However, we hope Lando is given the happy ending his character deserves. I predict that Lando will finally propose to Nien Nunb and the couple will settle down in Cloud City. And have like 12 babies.
Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
