The Force awakens the last Jedi from his nap two years from now.
This past week, Disney unveiled a number of release dates for their upcoming films through 2019.
Included in this list is Star Wars Episode IX, now officially scheduled to release on May 24, 2019.
We know little about Episode IX right now, other than it will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) and will conclude the story of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren. We also know that the late Carrie Fisher will not appear in the film, per a remark from Kathleen Kennedy at this year’s Star Wars Celebration.
Obviously, the immediate attention of fans and ourselves is turned towards Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which heads to theaters this December.
By the by, here’s a handy guide to all confirmed Stars Wars film release dates:
- Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi: December 15, 2017
- Untitled Han Solo Anthology film: May 25, 2018
- Star Wars Episode IX: May 24, 2019
As you may have noticed, Episode IX will be the first film of the new trilogy to not have a December release. With The Force Awakens and Rogue One, Disney has been cashing in big time with a holiday Star Wars release, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Episode IX slips to December 2019.
Till then, get hyped for The Last Jedi!
