Gunn tries to allay the fans concerns about Baby Groot’s voice.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy hit our big screens back in 2014, everyone was taken with its brilliant soundtrack, excellent comedic moments and great cast of memorable characters.
One such character is the ever so lovable tree, Groot (voiced by everyone’s favourite car racing pro, Vin Diesel). After the events of the first movie, we’re going to become more acquainted with a Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but it wasn’t long before fans raised concerns about Diesel’s deep voice and if he can pull off bringing the little fella to life.
Some even began to speculate if Vin would even be back to voice this incarnation of Groot in Vol. 2, but this was quickly put to rest when Diesel posted a video on Instagram with GotG director, James Gunn.
The pair can be seen talking about the special script they both have for Baby Groot, which allows Diesel to know exactly what’s going on in Groot’s head at any given moment throughout each scene:
After repeatedly being asked about Diesel voicing the little sprout, Gunn addressed the fans dubious concerns on twitter:
Simply because I’m getting asked this question more than any other. #BabyGroot #GotGVol2 pic.twitter.com/dNwjQOFGDO

Sure, Diesel’s known for having a deep, rich voice, but as Gunn points out, that doesn’t mean to say the actor’s a one trick pony. Maybe Diesel is even a veritable voice acting chameleon and we just don’t know it yet – how good would that be!
And whilst Gunn didn’t mention the use of voice modification, it is worth noting that in this day and age there are so many tools to play around with when it comes to pitches and voice tones, so there’s little cause for concern.
Even though we still don’t quite know how his voice will turn out, we have to admit we’re pretty intrigued. Baby Groot will no doubt sound great, and we’re glad Diesel’s back in on the Groot-related action with the GotG gang for round two.
After seeing his dance moves in the first movie, we’re entirely sure the little infant Groot will steal our hearts all over again next year.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due for release 28 April, 2017.
