Sorry Nintendo fans, the Nintendo NX remains shrouded in mystery.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hile the majority of the internet has been freaking out about Sony’s announcement to release a sleeker and more powerful Playstation 4 that can run games with 4k resolution, Nintendo fans were delighted and then understandably upset to find that the so-called Nintendo NX controller leak was nothing but a cruel joke. A photo, which can be seen below, was posted to Reddit by the user Idriss2Dev and it immediately became one of the most popular photos on Reddit in a matter of hours.
Of course, there wouldn’t be just one photo released of this fake controller and a few days later another collection of photos of the supposed Nintendo NX were released yet again, this time from a different account. What followed was a mixture of excitement and disgust from the internet with an overwhelming amount of people saying they weren’t happy with the design. Fortunately, the internet did what it does best and started to figure just who was responsible for the supposed Nintendo NX controller and if it was actually real.
As it turns out, the man responsible for creating the first fake Nintendo NX controller goes by the name of David Im and he works at a manufacturing company that specializes in engraving and laser cutting. David Im uploaded a video to YouTube explaining how he created the controller and what he did to make it appear authentic to the average person.
The second fake Nintendo NX controller was created by another person entirely by using 3D modeling and an advanced computer modeling program. The creator, Frank Sandqvist, is a co-founder of the company CNC Design that is based in Finland. Mr. Sandqvist revealed his role in the creating the second fake controller by also uploading a video to YouTube showing off his step-by-step process.
“I thought it would be funny to see how easy it would be to recreate that Photoshopped leak in real life,” Mr. Sandqvis0t said. “Turns out it’s pretty easy. I’m sorry if I got some people’s hopes up, but it seems most people were against this kind of design so maybe it’s just a relief that it’s fake…Turns out this design is very uncomfortable after all.”
Nintendo hasn’t released any sort of statement regarding the fake Nintendo NX controller and they probably never will. Nintendo doesn’t have the greatest track record when it comes to public relations and they have been doing a pretty great job keeping any information regarding the Nintendo NX locked up. With the powerful consoles like Xbox One and Playstation 4 dominating the market, the age of Wii has come to an end. Players want consoles that can deliver breathtaking graphics and immersive gameplay and unfortunately for Nintendo the Wii can’t produce that, so the Nintendo NX is their ace in the hole.
If there is one important lesson we can take from all of this it’s that you shouldn’t believe everything you see on the internet.
