Who will be taking on the role of the young ‘Nerfherder?’
The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed some sources had apparently shed some light on a shortlist for the seminal, puckish rogue role, in the highly secretive Han Solo standalone spin-off film.
According to their sources, tests in London have already been taking place, and the three prominent actors who are said to have been involved in these tests are Taron Egerton (of The Kingsman fame), Alden Ehrenreich (who starred in the Beautiful Creatures), and Jack Reynor (who’s featured in Transformers: Age of Extinction).
We don’t know whether these were screen tests, costumes tests, or if any other actors were among the selection (aside from some more rumoured names such as Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Emory Cohen), but these three actors seem to stand out as the top contenders for the Han Solo role.
It’s said that Lucasfilms and Disney have been conducting a widespread search for an actor to take on the role, with word on the street being that over 2,500 actors have been seen so far. That’s a whole lot of potential Hans.
The spin-off film will – as you might have of guessed – follow the earlier adventures of Han Solo, where we’ll no doubt learn how he came to be one of the coolest smugglers in the known galaxies.
Harrison Ford truly made the role completely his own, and it’s hard to imagine someone else trying to don his garb. Han certainly has some big shoes to fill, and you can just imagine how intimating this role will be for an actor to take on, and just how much they’ll have to live up to.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are attached to the project, which is estimated to release in 2018.
We still can’t help but point out that Anthony Ingruber, who bares an incredible resemblance to Ford, is ready and willing to take on the role of a lifetime. Given that’s he’s already played a younger Harrison Ford in The Age of Adaline, it’d be crazy not to give him some consideration.
The Han Solo standalone spin-off is understandably being kept tightly under wraps at the moment, but here’s to hoping we’ll get some more developments about the exciting project soon!
