Five weeks later and The Force Awakens is finally de-throned.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t has been a long time coming and now it has finally happened. Five weeks after its release, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now not the #1 film at the box office. Coming in at #3, the space opera had its spot overtaken by comedy Ride Along 2 starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart at #1 and Leonardo DiCaprio led The Revenant at #2.
Ride Along 2 had a strong opening weekend, raking in over $34 million while another newcomer at the box office, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi opened with $16 million coming in at #4.
We have some big openings this upcoming weekend. Comedy Dirty Grandpa starring Zac Efron and Robert Di Niro, action, sci-fi flick The 5th Wave, and horror film The Boy all hit theaters on January 22nd. All three films should have good opening weekends due to the anticipation for each film and because they all are different genres and appealing to most of the public.
