The Force Awakens spoilers incoming. (Sorry about the title).
We loved Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, one minor criticism we have with the film, as many others do, is the lack of specific details. The film didn’t explain small bits of information that would have made plot points clearer, like the Resistance’s relationship to the new Republic, or how R2D2 came out of his coma, and especially, where exactly Luke had been in exile.
Well, it now looks like we have the answer to that last question, as it has been confirmed that Luke has indeed been residing in Ahch-To, the planet home of the first Jedi Temple.
This news comes from a leaked version of the film’s script, which was intended for Writers Guild of America members considering the film for the awards season.
Following the leak, Pablo Hidalgo, the creative executive of the Lucas Story Group, took to Twitter to confirm what was revealed.

For those who remember, towards the middle of the film, Han explains to Rey and Finn that Luke was rumored to be looking for Ahch-To, which Rey recognizes as the first Jedi Temple.
At the very end of the film, Rey travels there and encounters the fabled Jedi right before the credits role. Again, it is never explicitly said that Rey and Luke are on Ahch-To.
We never learned what secrets this mystery planet holds, but we will definitely see more of this ancient Jedi Temple in Episode VIII.
Preliminary shooting for Episode VIII reportedly began last September at Skellig Micheal Island in Ireland, the set location used for Ahch-To. Mark Hamill was even spotted hanging with the locals.
Hopefully, we’ll learn a lot more about Ahch-To, and what Luke has been up-To in the next installment of the saga. Which is less than two years away…
Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on May 26, 2017.
